Dating an introvert is hard and not because they don't want to date. There are complexities associated with their nature. One has to pay a lot more attention to understand them as compared to any other personality type. If you are already dating an introvert or having a tough time figuring them out, read on.
1. Introverts need their space
Everyone needs some personal space. But with introverts, it's a basic necessity. If you are dating an introvert, you must understand that they need to spend quality time in solitude. They would be far happier to spend the entire weekend reading their favorite novel than engaging in any social activity. Let them enjoy their "me time" every once in a while. If they don't get enough distance, you'll find them a lot quieter and more restrictive. Let them recharge their battery.
2. Introverts take time to open up
You must give them time to open up to you and the surroundings. Don't expect them to start sharing things after a few dates; they might take much longer to come out of their shell. Once you establish a trustworthy bond, they'll feel more comfortable in your presence. Until then, take things slow and have patience.
3. Call only when texting isn't enough
Introverts have a tough time picking up the phone. No matter how weird it may sound to you, don't call them abruptly without giving them a hint. Most introverts feel more comfortable texting. Don't even think about a video call until, and unless, you know them enough. Sudden calls make them anxious, and they might not pick up at all. It may lead you to believe that they are avoiding you, but this is how they are.
4. Give introverts a heads-up for major plans
You can't expect your introverted partner to be okay with a last-minute change in plans that involves a lot of people. Give them a heads-up if you are planning something big. An introvert needs time to prepare for engaging social gatherings. They surely know how to party, but that's only after they have spent enough time recharging themselves in solitude. Also, a last minute change they haven't prepared for could totally freak them out. Give them a clue about what you have in mind.
5. Don't wait for an introvert to initiate
Introverts would rarely initiate a conversation, because they are happier in their own world. Even if an introverted person likes you, don't consider silence as a negative response. You just have to shed this wall between the two of you by sparking conversation. Forget about the stereotypical notion that guys are more likely to initiate. If he's introverted, you will have to step up to the plate.
6. Impress an introverted person through intellectual means
There's nothing like impressing someone on intellectual grounds. More than looks, fame or money, an introvert would prefer if you can impress by showing your intellectual prowess. They are usually very creative and crave for something that gets them thinking. For dates, take them to a museum or go for a walk in nature.
7. Small talk isn't their thing
Building intimacy with an introvert is quite tricky and can't start with small talk, but you can feel safe pouring your heart out to your introvert partner. They are the best listeners and can give you the most priceless advice. You will feel a lot closer to them if you can get them talking about something meaningful. Once they start, it would be tough to shut them up.
If you think sitting in silence with someone feels awkward, please note that it's a blissful moment for introverts. An introvert can spend hours not talking at all; this is actually a great sign that it's working. They love soaking in special moments in complete silence.
