The feeling of loving someone and being loved is second to none. There are billions of strangers on the planet; and now this one person has become your entire world. But to reach that point in a relationship, it takes time, mutual respect, passion, romance, and commitment. Love must start somewhere. Typically, that somewhere is a first date.
On a first date, you're braving the unknown; you may have gotten to know this person on an online dating site, but this is a completely different beast. Will you be smart enough, or funny enough, or attractive enough? How will you prevent a lull in the conversation?
Before you get ahead of yourself, try to keep in mind that a first date is a wonderful chance to get to know someone on a deeper level and have a fun, meaningful conversation. You can literally feel the sparks and the butterflies. If you find yourself being the one to pick out the location of the first date, that can add to the stress and uncertainty. Check out these tips to get some of your creative juices flowing for where to go and have fun.
Some guys prefer the dinner and a movie date. While that may be a tried and tested, fool-proof choice, it is run-of-the-mill. And you want to be anything but (to an extent). Remember, the first date is something that you will talk about with your grandkids. You should aim to make this date one to remember; a combination of fun, in-depth conversation, and a dash of flirtation.
Where is this mythical first date location, you ask? Here is a fun, little quiz you can use to pick the perfect spot for both of you:
Using their profile, or conversations you had, jot down three interests of theirs that stick out. Does your date like to hike? Are they a foodie, or cinephile, or a shopaholic? Once you are clear on what your date likes, the choice becomes clearer.
Check out some ideas below for first dates that you're both bound to remember for the rest of your lives.
1. Mini Potluck - This date is great, because you both share in the responsibility of planning. One of you takes responsibility for the drinks, and the other is responsible for food. If you both love the outdoors, bring your potluck to the park. If you're more comfortable inside, set up your potluck at one of your homes. Eat, talk, and enjoy each other's company. Make this even more memorable by presenting your date with a small present. It doesn't have to be expensive - a small bouquet of flowers will do just fine.
2. Three Course Dinner - This may sound like just another date, but you can spice it up by having each course at a different restaurant! If you or your date love the appetizers at Chili's, but want pasta from Olive Garden, why not both? This is a really fun idea to do with someone who enjoys eating. If you have a sense of adventure, this idea will bring you closer together for sure.
3. Theme Park - A theme park is a great place to go on a first date. If your date gets scared, but still enjoys the thrill of a rollercoaster, it opens up the perfect opportunity to comfort them. So, share some funnel cake and enjoy the rides!
4. Bucket List - You may feel like bucket lists are for older people. You're too young to be doing things that you have plenty time to do. However, a bucket list can be a great way to check off some adventures you've never had the courage to complete, and now potentially have someone to check them off with. The great thing about a bucket list is that you've already come up with the places and activities. Simply make a list of a few things you've been dying to try (don't be afraid to get creative), hit the road, and cross them off, one by one!
5. Stand-Up Comedy - A couple that laughs together, stays together, and a date at a comedy club will have you laughing all night long. The entire atmosphere - from the audience to the comics to the drinks - is electrifying. All you need to do is find the right night, get two tickets, and ask your date out!
6. Try Something New - Have you ever wondered what octopus tastes like? Or how it feels to go bungee jumping? Get creative and come up with a few things you've never done but always wanted to and give it a go! Try a new cuisine or do something totally out-of-this-world (within reason, of course). This will make your first date a night to remember.
7. Sporting Events - Another great first date idea is to go to a sporting event. Apart from having fun watching your favorite team, there is enough time to talk to one another and rally in the excitement of the game.
8. Play Make-believe - This may sound juvenile, but it's really fun, even for adults! It can be as small as playing house, or as big as playing adventure! Pack a bag and go to a new city and explore. This can even work in your hometown. Go to some of your favorite spots or a new place you haven't tried. Take photos of each other and your adventures throughout the day. You will be amazed at how enjoyable this really is!
9. Karaoke - It doesn't matter if you have a terrible voice or not, karaoke is always fun. Choose a fun song by Elvis, Michael Jackson, or even Ed Sheeran, and sing your heart out. You will be reminded of this night and the fun you had together every time you hear that song.
10. Museum - Check out a museum at a location both of you can conveniently access. It can be an art museum, historic museum, science mueseum - you name it. Ask your date if they have a preference, and maybe you might learn something grand about the world around us while learning about your date!
There are plenty of great first date ideas out there, this is just a few of our favorites. Which idea would you choose as a first date? Remember to do something that is mutually fun and memorable. After all, it could be the last first date you go on. Happy Dating!
