1. Setting your expectations too high
If you haven't had a significant other in a while, you may be setting your expectations a little too high. Everyone wants someone who is right for them, but certain people are destined to be out of your league. Looks aren't everything, so look someone who genuinely makes you happy.
2. Bringing up your ex too much
If you haven't fully gotten over your ex, it may be hard for you to find a new relationship partner. If you are on a first date with a potential significant other, and they keep bringing up an ex, that's a telltale sign that they are not ready to commit to a new relationship. If that sounds like you on a date, do your best to rekindle things with your ex or get over them completely.
3. Trying a little too hard
People will appreciate the feeling of being wanted, but you don't want to be overbearing. You don't want to come off as desperate. Show the other person you are interested in them without suffocating them with affection. Some people need more space than others, so it is best to gauge your potential partner before showering them with attention.
4. Not taking care of bad hygiene
The most universal turnoff is someone with bad hygiene. No one wants to be with someone who smells. If you've been single for a while and don't shower every day, you just found the easiest way to increase your chances at finding a successful mate.
It's not always showering that's the problem. You should routinely brush their teeth, wash and comb your hair and wear deodorant every day. If you are trying to stand out among the competition, try out a fragrance, but don't overdo it -- one to two sprays should do the trick. Also, wearing a fragrance does not exempt you from showering.
5. Acting too independent or uninterested in a relationship
Another reason you still may be single is because you may seem a tad too uninterested in being with someone. Being confident is a great quality, but you have to be selfless to have a successful relationship. Accept that not everything is about you. You may have to do some things you are not particularly fond of, such as attending a sporting event or a musical. You want to make your partner happy, you may have to make sacrifices.
