Ways to Rebuild a Relationship With a Partner You Can't Trust

Rebuilding a relationship after your trust breaks is one of the hardest things to do in life. Trust is the foundation of a healthy relationship, and if you can't trust your partner, things could get really messy. Rebuilding the trust in a relationship needs to start with the person who broke it first. However, a certain amount of effort is needed from both the individuals if they want to make it work and bring back the spark in their love life.

Rebuild a Relationship with Someone you can't Trust

Here are some ways that can help you rebuild your relationship with someone you can't trust.

1. Understand the reasons behind it

First and foremost, you need to understand the reason that led to the damage. If someone broke your trust or cheated on you, it's important for you to analyze the situation and determine your role in it. Did your partner discuss it before, and you took it casually? Were you not paying enough attention to your partner? Was it something that could have been avoided?

Ask yourself these questions, and if you find an answer, acknowledge and discuss it with your partner. Don't be hesitant in determining your own position in the scenario. Everything happens for a reason, and if you know the reason, it would be easier for you to accept the reality.

2. Manage trust issues while rebuilding

A damaged relationship would obviously lead to trust issues, and you'll find yourself struggling with even the smallest things. You will doubt your partner for things that you don't have to doubt. In such a scenario, you will have to prepare yourself to start trusting your partner again. You may fight at first, but you'll need to learn to deal with it if you want to continue the relationship.

Your partner should assure you that they are worthy of your trust to help the relationship. Managing trust needs to start with the partner who broke your trust in the first place, being more lenient until you figure out how to go about it.

3. Forgiveness is key in rebuilding trust

It's not easy to forget an incident that leaves a dent in your relationship. You may never be able to completely remove it from your memory, but you can forgive your partner and forgive yourself. Don't punish yourself for letting it happen. If you are ready to make the relationship work again, you can't proceed without forgiving your partner either. If you can find the courage in your heart for forgiveness, you are ready to mend your broken heart. If it's not something you can let go, it might be better to move on with your life.

4. Exercise patience while rebuilding

After the damage, things will change, and you might find it difficult to deal with the new dynamic. But if you keep faith and have patience, you will get through the tough times. It's unrealistic to expect a miracle to happen -- especially immediately. Things will take time to get back to normal.

Hang in there and give your partner some time to redeem themselves. It takes seconds to break a heart but a lifetime to re-affirm someone's faith. If you have decided to rebuild a broken relationship, patience is the only thing that will help you stay strong throughout the process.

5. Bring about change to forge a better relationship

While you rebuild your relationship, do some damage control. Share things that bug you and things that you would like to change, so you can work on a better relationship than you had in the first place. This could be a brand new start to your romance if you approach it with complete honesty. Discuss any areas you both need to work upon and act on the suggestions.

Trusting a person who has shown dishonesty in the past is all about the second chance. Give them time to prove themselves and make things right. If you are the one who got hurt, you are the one to decide whether your relationship deserves another chance or not. Your partner should utilize the opportunity and make all possible efforts before it's too late
