Any pet owner knows that they are guilty of certain behaviors, but isn't that one of the best parts of having a pet? Furry friends can easily influence your everyday life, but we love them for it. There are some things that every pet owner knows to be true about their relationship with their pet.
1. You talk to your pet
Anyone with a pet, no matter the species, speaks to them as if they are human. Whether it's discussing your friends, classes, a job or just your day in general, your furry friend is always there to lend a listening ear.
2. You care more about your pet's diet than your own
There are so many options for pet food that sometimes it's hard not to get carried away. On top of regular meals, there are also many gourmet treats that are hard to resist.
Oftentimes, we splurge more on pet food than on our own groceries.
3. You second guess going on vacation
If you leave, who is going to take care of your furry friend? It's easy to second guess going away when you have someone counting on you at home.
Finding someone to watch your pet will also factor into your decision, because you need to make sure they'll be properly taken care of.
4. You stay in bed when your pet is there
How can you leave your bed when your dog or cat is cuddling with you? Getting out of bed is hard enough but having the company of a pet makes it that much harder.
This is especially true if they are laying directly on you. Disturbing a comfortable sleeping pet is not something pet owners happily do.
5. You say "bless you" when your pet sneezes
They don't understand you, or care if you are being polite, but it feels right. You don't want to be rude!
6. Your pet is your baby
Logically, everyone knows that having a pet is not equivalent to having a child, but you often call them your baby. You do feed, clean and raise them, so it feels natural to treat them like your kid.
And just like a real child, they don't want to wear matching outfits.
7. You wonder whether they recognize themselves in the mirror
We look in the mirror all the time and know that we are looking back at ourselves, so normally we assume the same of them. Do they recognize their own furry face, or do they think it's another animal?
8. You show off pictures of your pet to anyone who will look
As soon as the topic of pets comes up, it is instinctive for pet owners to whip out their phones and show off their furry friends. Every pet owner is a photographer-in-training, so how could you miss out an opportunity to showcase your work?
Additionally, how could everyone not want to see your perfect pet?
9. Your pet substitutes as your vacuum
Many pets love to clean up after you when your food has accidentally fallen onto the floor. Sometimes, it will disappear before you even have a chance to clean it yourself. This is both a blessing and a curse. It's nice to not have to clean up, but some foods are just not meant for pets.
Either way, we love them for trying to help us clean up.
10. You stare at them, wondering what they're thinking
Every pet owner has looked their pet in the eyes and wondered what's going on in their head. Their minds work very differently than ours, but that doesn't stop us from personifying them. Every pet seems to have their own personality, which also leads you to wonder they're thinking.
Are they watching this show with me? Do they understand what's going on? What do they think when they see me? The questions a pet owner asks themselves about their furry friends are endless.
Pets create a lot of weird habits for their owners, but we love them even more for it. What are some habits you formed after adopting a pet?
