Watching romantic movies with someone special can yield mixed emotional results. Romantic comedies have the power to make us cry from sadness, cry from joy and feel everything in between. They can also get you to believe in love again. If you're bored at home on Saturday night, make some popcorn and have a movie night with your lady. Depending on the comfort with which you view your own current relationship status, cuddling up and watching two people falling in love can add some fun and romantic thoughts to a night in. And if you're single, these movies might make you hopeful that someone out there is looking for you.
1. "About Time"
Some movies make you think about them for a long time afterwards. "About Time" is a charming film revolving around a man who possesses the power to travel in time. He attempts to use these special powers to win over the girl of his dreams -- with some mishaps and tragedies along the way, of course. The time travel has its obvious blowback, but that's what make this movie so much fun. We highly recommend "About Time" if you're looking for something to make you both laugh, cry and appreciate the way life develops.
2. "(500) Days of Summer"
"500 Days of Summer" is not your stereotypical love story. For those unfamiliar, the movie follows Tom (played by Joseph Gorden-Levitt) who is blindsided after his girlfriend Summer (played by Zooey Deschanel) dumps him. He shifts back and forth through various periods of their 500 days together to try to figure out where things went wrong. His pensiveness ultimately leads him to finally rediscover his true passions in life. What's great about this movie is that it's not convincing you to find love, be in love or any of that. And at the end, Tom does find love again, but it shows you to never give up on yourself first.
3. "Tangled"
If you want to keep the mood light, try the animated movie "Tangled" that's the Disney version of the Rapunzel fairytale. Watch Flynn Ryder and Rapunzel fall in love to catchy songs with family friendly jokes. The movie spent six years in production and might be the most expensive animated film ever made, so you know that it's a visual masterpiece. Watching with a child or animal lover? No Disney movie is complete without quirky animal side characters, and "Tangled" has Rapunzel's adorable pet chameleon Pascal.
4. "50 First Dates"
We all have one film that we can't explain why, but we have watched it many times and still fall in love with it. "50 First Dates" might be that for you. In this film, Lucky (played by Drew Barrymore) is a woman whose memory hits reset every night, swiping the past 24 hours clean. Henry (played by Adam Sandler) is a ladies man who tries to woo Lucky and ends up falling for her. He accepts the challenge to be with Lucky even though she does not remember her feelings the next day. He must learn ways to help her instead of losing hope. The film shows that one should never give up, no matter how difficult the task at hand may seem.
5. "Stuck in Love"
Make some popcorn and settle in for a movie night together if you have not seen the indie film "Stuck in Love." A story about a family of writers, the characters all deal with the repercussions of love. It showcases different ages and different places in love -- experiencing first love, being separated, having extramarital affairs, giving second chances. The film makes you think about about how real relationships are not perfect. You will experience every emotion throughout this movie!
6. "The Big Wedding"
If you're looking for a romantic comedy that will simultaneously make you laugh and cry, this family drama is perfect for you. This film takes a lighthearted, yet seriously honest approach to family drama, marriage and divorce -- something that you and your partner can cry and laugh your way through, no matter what your love life looks like.
Don't stop at the end of this list. There are a plethora of other romantic movies to watch if you want to reignite the spark in your heart. A good romantic movie might get you crying a little, but it also makes you feel hopeful about what's to come.
